Peter O'Toole
Peter O'Toole has died and the tributes are pouring in. For a man who has so many amazing performances to choose from, both on-stage and on-screen it feels somehow silly to admit that just about my first memory of him and one of my favourite films is the wonderfully farcical "High Spirits". But there you have it. Haven't watched it for years but it was a firm favourite when I was a kid, I may need to find a copy to watch again soon.
Many thanks for this: Many years ago I saw about ten minutes of a play with Peter O'Toole in it, but what struck me most was the way the cast kept appearing and dissapearing and playing multiple characters. I didn't know the title but that didn't stop me, years later, from using the same format for my Theatre Studies degree final piece. When I saw your post I recognised O'Toole and googled his theatre work and found the play. It is called "Jefferey Bernard is unwell" and it is in YouTube. At last I'll know what the story is... Many thanks.
Glad to be of help Andy. It's funny how sometimes you can see just a few minutes of somebody and it will always stay with you until years later when you finally make the connection and find out who it is. Jen, glad I'm not the only one. I just find there's something totally captivating by that type of long-legged physically manic performance, especially when it's tempered by the quieter moments.

ReplyDeleteI loved High Spirits as well and thought of that and Creator immediately when I saw the headline.
ReplyDeleteSeems like that type of actor is slowly dwindling.
